This 18-year-old girl pictured above, Okike Ezinne from Isu Mbaneze in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has been arrested by the Enugu State Police Command for allegedly selling her baby identified as Chisom Raphal for N300,000. She was arrested on Tuesday.

According to spokesman of the police in Enugu State, SP Ebere Amaraizu, Ezinne blamed her bosom friend for tricking her into selling off her baby.

Amaraizu disclosed in the statement that the girl had the baby out of wedlock and decided to keep it but was reportedly tricked to sell off the baby by her friend, one Promise Godwin, a 20-year old single mother.

He said that the suspect narrated that when things were no longer going smoothly for her at home, her bosom friend identified as one Promise Godwin, also from Isu Mbaneze Ohazara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State approached her to come to Enugu with the child with a promise that somebody was going to take care of Ezinne and little Chisom Raphael.

“According to Ezinne, she later joined the friend in Enugu where she secured an accommodation at Coal Camp axis but later found out that the friend has abandoned her husband and was into commercial s*x work at Four corners junction, Enugu to make ends meet.

“Sometime in the month of March 2016, Promise Godwin perfected the purchase deal of little Chisom at the rate of N300, 000 with 46-year-old Gloria Okafor from Uturu but married to now late Sunday Okafor of Umudi Lokpanta in Abia State whose major occupation is to get and sell babies to prospective buyers within Uturu, lokpanta and its environs,” the police spokesman said.

Amaraizu said that police gathered that following the establishment of the sales understanding between Ezinne and Promise with Gloria Okafor, little Chisom Raphael was taken to Limca bus stop at Okigwe, Imo State, along Enugu Port-Harcourt Expressway, Okigwe where Chisom was sold to Gloria Okafor at the rate of N300, 000 and money given to the mother of Chisom in cash.

“On coming back to Enugu, the suspects shared the money as follows:N200, 000 to Ezinne, the mother of the sold child, N50, 000 to Promise, while the remaining N50, 000 went to the motorcyclist working with Godwin Promise at the Four Corner Brothel where she is staying”, he added.

According to Amaraizu, Gloria Okafor, having been nabbed, revealed how she bought the child from the duo of Ezinne and Promise but maintained that the child was later handed over to the buyer that same day and that the buyer was now at large and further revealed that Godwin Promise, who is already 8-month pregnant and also with a child of one year and a month, has also perfected arrangement to sell off the baby whom she named Chiadikaobi to a prospective buyer before they were nabbed by the operatives of the Central Police station of the Nigeria Police, Enugu State command.

The PPRO added that the “suspects are now helping police in their investigations and begging for forgiveness but however blamed the situation to act of satan.

“The state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ojukwu, has advised youths to watch the friend they keep in order to become meaningful to themselves and the entire society.”

Why Men Really Prefer Women With Massive Bums...Scientists Reveal the Answer

By // No comments:

According to an article published by Dailymail, scientists have now proffered reasons why men prefer women with massive bums. Modern man's preferences for women with a curvy backside has been traced back to prehistoric influences.

It found the 'theoretically optimal angle of lumbar curvature,' is a 45.5 degree curve from back to buttocks.

This allowed ancestral women to better support, provide for, and carry out multiple pregnancies.

'What's fascinating about this research is that it is yet another scientific illustration of a close fit between a s*x-differentiated feature of human morphology — in this case lumbar curvature — and an evolved standard of attractiveness,' said the study's co-author David Buss, a University of Texas at Austin psychology professor.

'This adds to a growing body of evidence that beauty is not entirely arbitrary, or 'in the eyes of the beholder' as many in mainstream social science believed, but rather has a coherent adaptive logic.'

The research was published online in Evolution and Human Behavior, and consisted of two studies. The first looked at vertebral wedging, an underlying spinal feature that can influence the actual curve in women's lower backs. About 100 men rated the attractiveness of several manipulated images displaying spinal curves ranging across the natural spectrum.

Men were most attracted to images of women exhibiting the hypothesized optimum of 45 degrees of lumbar curvature.

'This spinal structure would have enabled pregnant women to balance their weight over the hips,' Lewis said.

'These women would have been more effective at foraging during pregnancy and less likely to suffer spinal injuries.
'In turn, men who preferred these women would have had mates who were better able to provide for fetus and offspring, and who would have been able to carry out multiple pregnancies without injury.'

The second study addressed the question of whether men prefer this angle because it reflects larger buttocks, or whether it really can be attributed to the angle in the spine itself.

Approximately 200 men were presented with groups of images of women with differing buttock size and vertebral wedging, but maintaining a 45.5-degree curve.

Men consistently preferred women whose spinal curvature was closer to optimum regardless of buttock size, the researchers found.

'This enabled us to conclusively show that men prefer women who exhibit specific angles of spinal curvature over buttock mass,' said the study's co-author Eric Russell, a visiting researcher from UT Arlington.

This morphology and men's psychological preference toward it have evolved over thousands of years, and they won't disappear over night.

'This tight fit between evolutionary pressures and modern humans' psychology, including our standards of attractiveness, highlights the usefulness that an evolutionary approach can have for expanding our knowledge not just of the natural sciences, but also the social sciences,' Lewis said.

APC Governors Meet President Buhari On State Of The Nation

By // No comments:

The All Progressive Congress (APC) governors across the nation met with President Muhammadu Buhari and vice president Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday in the villa.

A source at the meeting said, “The governors sympathized with the President for working with a National Assembly that is largely seen as unfriendly.

“Particularly, they observed that in the absence of the President of the Senate, the next person is his deputy. They therefore agreed that it was an anomalous situation for a PDP person to continue as the Deputy President of the Senate.

“They sought and got the President’s permission to intervene in the matter. They argued that the truth of the matter is that rarely is there any Senator that emerged without the backing of their governors, hence the governors have some level of influence on the federal lawmakers.”

Also, Mr President and the governors are worried over the crisis brewing in the House of Reps with shocking revelations and allegations.

Governor Okorocha said, “We have come to reassure Mr. President that APC governors are solidly behind him in his fight against corruption; his fight against insurgents and all his laudable projects.

“We are concerned about the incessant happenings in the National Assembly and we have taken it upon ourselves to look into the matter; that is the crisis in the National Assembly.

“We are going to look into the matter because we need a strong and vibrant National Assembly to make things move fast in the country.”

INEC Is Messing Up Nigeria's Democracy - Fayose

By // No comments:

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said they won't go ahead with election when people's lives are at risk, just the way people were being killed during election in the past and nothing happened to those who killed Corp members and others.

But Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has a different position.

Mr. Fayose has said that the Independent National Electoral Commission is messing up democracy in the country. The governor described the postponement of the Rivers State rerun elections and the alleged manipulation of the Imo North Senatorial election as a dangerous signal of what Nigerians should expect in 2019.

He wondered how INEC that could not conduct elections conclusively in just one state would be able to conduct elections in the entire country in 2019.

The governor, in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, reiterated his fear that “democracy in Nigeria is being threatened by INEC and this should call for national and international reflection.”

Fayose said, “President Buhari should ask himself if he would have been elected if the system then did not allow free and fair elections. The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, should also be worried if there would have been an INEC to head if the 2015 elections had been inconclusive.”

I Rejected Obasanjo's N50million Third Term Bribe - Senator Rubbishes Ex-President

By // No comments:

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo has been exposed after by the deputy Senate leader, Bala Ibn Na’Allah, who accused the former president of making allegations he cannot back up with evidence.

He further revealed that he rejected N50 million from the former president after he tried to bribe Senate members during his administration to favour him for a third term.

This is coming after Obasanjo on Monday said the National Assembly was filled with thieves.

Mr. Na’Allah, a former member of the House, who now represents Kebbi south district, said in a statement on Tuesday that he took exception to the impression that there were no men of integrity in the National Assembly.

“I am respectfully taking exception to the statement which I express the hope is not true,” the lawmaker said. “To start with it is not in my character to join issues with an elder statesmen who have had the privilege of superintending over the affairs of our great country Nigeria.

“This exception has become necessary in view of the enormity of the alleged statement to my person and integrity.”

“If former President Obasanjo can come out with one proven record of corruption against me as a person, I promise to vacate my seat as a senator of the federal republic of Nigeria.

“For the records, I was the only member from Kebbi State who did not find it worthy at that time of collecting the sum of N50 million as an inducement to subvert the constitution and provide a constitutional framework for the third term ambition of President Obasanjo.

“I find this statement if it is true to be reckless and terrifying.

“The implications of the statement is to say that the entire over 170 million Nigerians have not elected a single person with integrity among the 469 members of the National Assembly.

“This is definitely rhapsodic and does not conform to common sense and reason,”
he added.

Amaechi, Wike in Handshake During Peace Meeting on Rivers-rerun (Photos)

Rotimi Amaechi, Nyesom Wike and Lawal Daura

A peace deal was brokered by the acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the Director-General of the State Security Service, Lawal Daura between top politicians in Rivers State namely the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, NIMASA boss, Dakuku Peterside and Governor Nyesom Wike.

The police spokesperson, Donald Awunah said in a statement Tuesday evening with pictures released by Vanguard newspaper.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, committed themselves to peace in the oil rich state on the same day rerun elections in the state were postponed for fear of violence, according to Premium Times.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in statement by its secretary, Augusta Ogakwu, announced the suspension of the National Assembly and State Assembly rerun elections earlier slated for July 30, after risk assessments and consultations with security agencies and relevant bodies.

“The reports of these assessments have been almost unanimous in concluding that the prevailing security situation in most parts of the state where elections are to hold are not conducive for peaceful elections,” INEC said.

“In the Commission’s view, the rhetorics of some of the political actors, the incidence of violence in a number of local government areas where these elections are scheduled and the atmosphere of fear and intimidation created present danger in proceeding with elections as earlier scheduled.”

Earlier, INEC conducted the rerun legislative electors on March 19, but “regrettably, the elections in all three Senatorial districts and several other of these constituencies could not be concluded due to violent disruption of the process which necessitated the suspension of the exercise in all the senatorial districts and affected constituencies”.

INEC urged continuous efforts by “respected” individuals, organisations and leaders to douse tension and ensure conducive atmosphere, adding it has responsibility to ensure safety of electorate, electoral personnel and observers.

Pastor Chased Out During Service By His Members Over Money Issue in Lagos (PHOTOS)

By // No comments:

Members of Christ Apostolic Church in Abule-Ijesha, Yaba, Lagos State and their Pastor, Michael Oni, had a serious disagreement last Sunday and at then end of the brawl, the Pastor was thrown out of the Church.

The normal program had started with rendering of different worship songs by all in attendance, until an unnamed man mounted the podium to disrupt the day’s activities. This unholy act ended in a brawl over disagreements on the disbursement of church money and the pastor's monthly salary.

A church member, Badejo Adelu accused the pastor of instigating the members against themselves and also taking away money belonging to the church without approval. "He has been giving the church problem, causing chaos in the church and fighting members, insulting and raising bad covenant between members", he told TVC.

A member of the church who displayed the transfer letter of the pastor, Olusegun Omotajo gave the account of the real cause of brawl and disagreement in the church.

He said the pastor was transferred to their church from leadership of the church in Ibadan, Oyo State. He said the letter showed that the pastor was a level 7 step one officer but the pastor insisted on receiving the salary of a level 9 step nine officer.

He said the church who wanted peace further decided to pay the pastor as a level 8 step one officer and then paid his January to March salary in May, but this the said pastor did not still agree with them.

In his defense, the accused, Pastor Micheal Oni said all he demanded was the involvement of his attention in the church’s account running. He said even though they failed to show him account activities of the church prior to his arrival, but they are yet to show him the account since he took over the pastoral duties in the church.

"I asked them that I want to see the account of the church which they failed to render. I told them they should not spend any money without approval by me, they refused", he explained.

He said he had ordered them to stop all spending involving the church till issues are been taken care of from the leadership of the church in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Governor of Kaduna to Demolish 40 Churches and Other Buildings....See Shocking Details

By // No comments:

A large crowd of residents of Gbagyi Villa – a suburb of Kaduna metropolis – on March 17, trooped out, carrying placards in protest against demolition notices issued to them by Kaduna State Urban Planning Development Authority, KASUPDA. The residents said they had been living in the community for decades and had acquired the necessary titles to the lands and, as such, were jolted by the intention of Kaduna State government to eject them.

Mr. Chris Obodum, Chairman, Gbagyi Community, later told journalists that the community boasted of about 3,500 buildings, 40 churches, 16 schools and 35,000 residents. He narrated: ‘The story of Gbagyi Villa is easy to understand. For hundreds of years, the area has been inhabited by the Gbagyi people.

However, sometime in 2010, a suit was instituted against some members of the local community by Kaduna Polytechnic. In the course of the court proceedings, the polytechnic sought for settlement out of court. The court obliged and the matter was settled amicably.

“Thereafter the Kaduna State government issued a White Paper to that effect and the Surveyor General prepared a survey map demarcating the polytechnic land from that of the community.

“The polytechnic accepted the resolution of the dispute and, thereafter, proceeded to erect a concrete wall fence demarcating its land from that of the community.

“From the foregoing, it is clear to us that the polytechnic is not laying claim to Gbagyi Villa and has no pending case against us. For the Kaduna State government to claim that our community, after all these years of existence, sits on the polytechnic land is incomprehensible to us.

“Furthermore, the allegation by KASUPDA of non-possession of planning permits is false. KASUPDA knows this. It is just a veil to deceive the public and to obscure the true motive of government,”

Shortly after the community headed to Kaduna State High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice Hannatu Balogun, who granted an injunction stopping “the state government, the Attorney General of the state, Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority KASUPDA), respectively as respondents, either by themselves or through their employees, staff, servants, agents, proxies or whosoever, from demolishing or destroying the applicants’ buildings,” until the case was disposed.

The court order caused wild jubilation in the community, returning hope. Last Thursday, five months later, as Governor Nasir El-Rufai visited the place to see for himself, anxious residents lined the streets, not knowing what to make of the visit. But many of the residents, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard before the arrival of “Russau” (‘demolisher’ in Hausa tongue – which seems to elate El-Rufai), said they were sure that when the governor saw the quality and number of buildings in the community, he would be moved by compassion to forget any planned demolition in the estate.

I Won't Stop Criticizing Buhari, APC Government – Fayose

By // No comments:

The embattled Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose on Friday said he would not stop being vocal in his criticism of the All Progressives Congress-led federal government despite the corruption cases against him.

Fayose was the guest on a personality programme on Fresh FM in Ibadan where he alleged that APC had deployed certain powers to intimidate him because of his criticism of the Federal Government.

Talking tough, Fayose said:

“I am being persecuted because I am vocal. Why some of us are talking today is because if we betray the masses, God will not forgive us. That is why people like us have to exhibit courage to speak the truth. And if you notice, they are leaving no stone unturned to cage me from commenting, but that cannot be possible. They cannot win this war.

“I can’t keep quiet, they can’t shut my mouth. I am being persecuted but unfortunately I am becoming more popular. To this government, anybody in APC is considered a saint, but PDP people are rogues. That’s why you see some of our people crossing to their side and immediately, they become saints.”

The governor claimed he's the last man standing, adding that people like Femi Fani-Kayode had been kept quiet and that the next step for the APC government was to kill the PDP in Nigeria.

I just hope Fani-Kayode will not reply and blast Fayose, nobody can keep him quiet too. #politics

Lagos Monarch Kidnappers Contacts Family to Provide N500m

By // No comments:

A week after the Oniba of Ibaland, Oba Yushau Oseni, has been kidnapped, his abductors have contacted his family and demanded the ransom of N500m for his release.

One of the monarch’s sons, Saheed Oseni, who confirmed that the kidnappers had made contact, told Punch that they said they could no longer make money from pipeline vandalism.

Saheed called on the state government to rise to the family’s help and rescue their father.

He said, “Even if you sell the whole community, we can’t raise N500m. The men finally called on Thursday and said they wanted N500m. They said Baba is a part of the government and he should be able to raise that money. They said they had no pipeline to eat from and so they must survive.

“They said the Yorubas and Hausas stopped their means of livelihood and they needed to find another means of survival. All our pleadings fell on deaf ears. We have conveyed the update to the state government and we believe something will be done. We are seriously concerned about Baba’s health.

“We know the government is on top of the situation and we are hopeful.”

Oba Oseni was abducted from his palace on Saturday, July 16, 2016 around 8.30pm.

The gunmen numbering about 16 stormed the palace in two speedboats and killed the palace guard.

An unidentified motorcyclist was also killed while the kidnappers shot at the monarch’s wife Kuburat who is still recuperating in a government hospital.

A woman and her three-month-old baby and a yet-to-be-identified businessman were also reportedly abducted by the gunmen.

Nothing was heard from the abductors of the 73-year-old monarch for six days after his abduction, until Friday, fuelling speculations about what could have happened to the monarch.

Now the monarch’s abductors have threatened the family to raise the money as fast as they could, as he was an influential member of the state government.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the police were still on the trail of the kidnappers and are hopeful of rescuing the monarch soon.

Father Sues His Three Daughters For Not Visiting Him Enough

By // No comments:

69-year-old father of three, Mr Yang Zhengyuan from China's Sichuan province has filed a lawsuit against his three daughters for not returning home to visit him 'frequently'. He claimed his daughters hadn't come home enough or given him enough financial support over the past ten years.

Funny enough, his daughters - Yang Liu, Yang Qing and Yang Lan - has hit back with a counterclaim accusing him of favoring boys over girls.

Yang Liu claims that her father beat her in her own office after she failed to give him the money he was demanding from her.

While Yang Qing said she was beaten by her dad when she was pregnant: 'When I was a few months pregnant, he pulled my hair and beat me.'

They have provided copies of balance transfers sent to their father.

The family has been able to work out an agreement under which they will visit him twice a year and call once every month. The mother of the girls, Mrs Xiao Liu, confirmed the girls' allegations saying her husband favored boys over girls and used to beat her.

The daughters also argue that their father has shown a lack of interest in their personal affairs such as education, marriages and careers.

Yang Qing told reporters: 'Even if he wins the case, we would lose our affection.'

On his part, the dad admitted that he could have contributed more to his family but denies claims that he 'abandoned' his daughters.

Earlier in 2016 China introduced a law that allows parents sue children for not seeing them enough.

Children who still refuse to visit their parents will be given a bad credit which may make it difficult for them to open bank accounts, take out loans and even have a library card. The new law has an emphasis on 'coming home' rules.

During visits to their parents, the children have to provide financial and spiritual support to them.

Halliburton Scandal: Aisha Buhari Prepares to Visit Washington DC Amidst Threat by Fayose

By // No comments:

SaharaReporters has learned details of the wife of Nigerian President, Aisha Buhari’s upcoming trip to the United States this August, 2016.

News of Mrs. Buhari’s trip to the U.S follows accusations by embattled Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose that she was involved in the famous Halliburton scandal and, as a consequence, cannot go to the US for fear of being arrested.

Independent investigations by the online news platform and the New York Times have found that President Muhammadu Buhari's wife is not the same "Aisha Buhari" involved with the Halliburton scandal, despite Mr. Fayose’s persistent remarks.

According to an official invitation letter obtained by a correspondent, Mrs. Buhari is expected to be in the US from August 1st to the 10th and will be attending bilateral meetings at the George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. She will also be hosted by the United States Institute of Peace in collaboration with Voice of America media organization.

The invitation also says that Mrs. Buhari “will attend the 25th Anniversary celebration of Zumunta Association USA Inc.”

The letter was signed by Hajo Sani, the Senior Special Assistant (Administration), on behalf of Mrs. Buhari.

My Father Was Brutalized, His Lower Limbs Amputated - Tompolo Writes Buhari in Pains

By // No comments:

Former Niger Delta warlord, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo on Friday wrote a heartfelt letter to All Progressives Congress (APC) leader and President Muhammadu Buhari on the excesses of the military in the Niger Delta region.

The former Movement of the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND said that his family and associates were under siege by security agents, who allegedly treated roughly his 84-year-old father, in Kurutie community, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government, resulting in the amputation of his lower limbs, two weeks ago, according to the Vanguard.

In an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, which he indicated might be his last, said the continuous harassment and intimidation was getting out of hand, and he does not deserve it.

He said after the military invaded Kurutie and brutalized his father, sympathizers managed to rescue him to Warri, where the hospital admitted him. “Sadly, one of his lower limbs was amputated two weeks ago. From the doctor’s report, it will be a thing of miracle if he survives this incident. Is this 84- year- old man also a member of the Niger Delta Avengers that they brutalized to the point of death? He asked.

He said that the harassment and intimidation was by the Nigeria Army, Navy and Department of State Services, DSS, in connivance with two chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State, Chief Ayiri Emami and Chief Michael Johnny. The ex-militant leader asked President Buhari: “Will Your Excellency accept this in good faith if this was done to your father or someone of this age in your family?”

He also said the latest of the victims of this unwarranted, misdirected and wicked act were Hon. Simeon Bebenimibo, a member of the Delta State Waterway and Land Security Committee, and a driver of one of my aides, Mr Ebipade Kari, who was on an errand with a little baby, ThisDay reports.

Ekpemupolo said also that the military men stormed the house of one of his younger brothers, and harassed his pregnant wife with guns pointed at her which led to complications because of the closeness to her full time of delivery.

The arrested duo, he said, were presently in the custody of the Nigerian Army, Effurun, adding that before the incident, the Nigerian Navy also went to the apartment of another of his aides, picked up his heavily pregnant wife since he was out of town, and kept her for 24 hours in the Navy base before releasing her.

iPhone Will Soon Start Warning When its Lightning Port Gets Wet

By // No comments:

None of Apple's iOS devices are waterproof, which has become more obvious as competitors such as Sony and Samsung launch fully waterproof phones.

But a new iOS feature, spotted in the beta 3 version of iOS 10, somewhat alleviates the issue by warning users when an iPhone's lightning port gets wet.

Spotted by EverythingApplePro, the feature appears to only work with the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and iPhone SE, even though it could theoretically work with newer iPads and iPods, which spot a Lightning port as well.

If you get water in the Lightning port, your iPhone will display the following message:

Disconnect Lightning Accessory

Liquid has been detected in the Lightning connector.

To protect your iPhone, disconnected this Lightning accessory and allow the connector to dry.

In many cases, when you see this message it will already be too late. But if it saves even a small percentage of iPhones about to die a watery death, it'll be worth something.

This new feature tells us very little about the possibility of a future waterproof iPhone. But the fact that Apple has included a moisture sensor of some sort in its newer iPhones, and hasn't done anything visible with it until iOS 10, is definitely intriguing.

There Will Be Only Two iPhone 7 Models, Regular and Pro

By // No comments:

There has been many uncertainties about Apple's iPhone 7 lately and it is yet to be ascertained whether Apple will release three iPhone 7 models - regular iPhone 7, a bigger Plus and the iPhone Pro with dual-cameras. Well, we may only be getting two models, regardless of whether the big one is called Plus or Pro.

The two models are allegedly code named Sonora and Dos Palos, two towns in California that are nowhere near each other (or Cupertino). If you believe in conspiracy theories, "Dos Palos" is Spanish for "two sticks." What does that say about iPhone Pros dual cameras?

Unbelievable! See Two Women Who Rented Little Babies for N1,500 and Used Them to Beg in Lagos (Photo)

By // No comments:

Lagos State police command has arrested two heartless women who allegedly rented babies for a sum of N1,500 and use the kids to beg for money in Lagos.

According to The Nation, three (3) babies who are less than one month old were recovered from them. Hadiza Nosiru and Salamotu Salitu were arrested by the monitoring team of Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development for renting the babies which is a crime under the law.

They have been taken to the Rehabilitation and Training Centre at Majidun, new Ikorodu.

Preliminary investigation showed that the women were not the biological mothers of the babies. The babies the ministry said, were given out to the women by their parents, who are paid daily.

One of the babies mothers, who was paraded at the state secretariat on Alausa, Ikeja, yesterday gave her name as Tawa Aregbesola from Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital. She said she had an agreement with one of the suspects to take her baby for alms begging between 5pm and 7pm daily for between N1000 and N1500.

Aregbesola, a mother of four, said she did not know where her baby is usually taken to adding that she was oblivious of the consequences.

Youth and Social Development Commissioner Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf said efforts would be intensified to stop street begging.

She expressed displeasure at the use of babies for begging, exposing them to hazards on the streets.

Mrs Akinbile-Yussuf urged the public to help the government in eradicating the menace.

The commissioner noted that the practice was prevalent among female beggars especially from the north. She promised to take legal steps to deter others who may also wasn’t to indulge in the proactive.

Chai! Drama as Nasty Odour Forces Plane to Make Emergency Landing With 174 People on Board

By // No comments:

A British Airways holiday jet has been forced to make an emergency landing after a nasty odour caused serious commotion inside the plane.

The plane made an emergency landing today after the stench of cannabis filled the cabin.

One of the passengers, Stuart Barnes, 40, said: “The smell was unmistakable.”

According to The Sun UK, the plane returned to Gatwick after 90 minutes, costing BA £50,000 and causing travel chaos. Fire crews rushed aboard to check out the overpowering smell. The cause and source remains unclear.

Stuart, his wife Susan, 43, and daughters Rosie, ten, and Olivia, nine were among up to 174 passengers on BA2552 who paid up to £700 for a return trip.

Finance worker Stuart, from Cardiff, added: “There was a faint smell when we got on. We were told that they hoped when they put the air conditioning on it would clear, but it got even stronger. You could tell straightaway what it was.

“Everyone at the back of the plane was saying it smelled of cannabis. We’ve been to Amsterdam and we know what it smells like.

“Our daughters could smell it but didn’t know what it was. BA have been very quiet at giving us an explanation. All they said was the cabin crew was ill from a pungent smell at the back of the aircraft.

“We were four rows from the back and the whole back of the plane stank. The smell was unmistakable. We have no idea where it was coming from. All the passengers said it smelled like weed.

“We were quite concerned about what it was and the crew seemed quite alarmed as well which put panic among the passengers. My daughter is afraid of flying anyway and the crew didn’t do much to make us feel better.”

Another holidaymaker Simon Skinner posted on Twitter: “British Airways flight to Heraklion turned back after nasty smell. Disappointed holidaymakers.”

The plane was diverted over Paris and passengers spent an hour at Gatwick before a new plane and crew were organised to fly at midday.

Hundreds in Crete waiting to return to the UK were delayed by up to six hours, sparking compensation claims.

BA also ripped up rotas as the crew had flown beyond their legal hours. The airline apologised but insisted no one was ill on the flight.

A spokesman said: “Our pilot returned the aircraft to Gatwick as a precaution following reports of an unidentified strong smell in the cabin. We are sorry for the delay to our customers’ journeys.”

Abuja Driver Who Escaped With Passenger's N1.8m Arrested

By // No comments:

38-year-old driver, Muritala Olugunju from Ogun State, was said to have picked Mohammed at Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, for shopping, before taking him to a hotel where he wanted to stay.

But as he entered the hotel to book a room, leaving his bags containing cash and other stuffs in the taxi, Olugunju drove off.

Mohammed alerted the police, who trailed Olugunju and, few weeks later, he has been arrested.

Speaking to Vanguard, the driver said he was pushed by the devil. He explained that he suspected that Mohammed had cash in his bag because he didn’t go to the bank or use ATM throughout their trip.

He confessed: "I gave my girlfriend N200,000 and my sister, N80,000. Then I bought a car for myself which I intended to use for my business, but before I knew what was happening, I was arrested.

"I regret doing this and I hope my passenger will forgive me."

By // No comments:

Controversial and formidable figure contesting for the post of Number One citizen in America, Donald Trump, is in the news again after appearing to have copied a tweet by Barack Obama.

Trump, who is pitched against Hilary Clinton is in the news for plagiarizing President Barack Obama's tweet years ago.

This is coming after Trump's wife also made headlines for copying Obama's wife's speech.

Barack Obama made a tweet four years ago in 2012, about his wife, Michelle Obama as seen below:

4 years after, Donald Trump, while also talking about his wife, Melanie Trump, shared an identical tweet:

What got observers really stunned is that both men tweeted their statements on twitter on 19th July: Obama tweeted his on 19th July 2012 and Trump made his today, 19th July 2016.

More Hard Times Ahead this 2016 as Budget Failure Looms

By // No comments:

As the IMF predicts that Nigeria’s economy will contract this year, Minister of Budget, Senator Udo Udoma on Thursday has painted a more bleak picture for the economy this year, saying government revenues reached only 55 per cent of what had been targeted in the first quarter of the year, blaming attacks on oil facilities in the southern Niger Delta region.

This came as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF ), Mr. Babachair David Lawal said that the Federal Government may not fully implement the 2016 national budget; also attributing the situation to the activities of the economic saboteur-militants.

The SGF said while the economy should look better in second half of the year, growth will probably not “be sufficiently fast, sufficiently rapid to be able to negate the outcome of ” the first and second quarters.

The economy shrunk by 0.4 percent in the first quarter, the first contraction in more than a decade, as oil output and prices slumped and the passing of the 2016 Appropriation Act was delayed.

According to New Telegraph, a currency peg and foreign-exchange trading restrictions, which were removed last month after more than a year, led to shortages of goods from fuel to most consumables and contributed to the contraction in the first three months of the year.

Leon, who spoke in a recent interview in Abuja, said, while conditions that impeded growth in the first half of the year, including shortages of power, fuel, and foreign exchange, as well as the higher price of dollars on the parallel market, may have been reduced, they still weigh on the economy. IMF cut its 2016 growth forecast for Nigeria to 2.3 per cent in its April Regional Economic Outlook from 3.2 per cent projected in February.

The World Bank lowered its forecast to 0.8 per cent last month, citing weakness from oil output disruptions and low prices. Last year ’s expansion of 2.7 per cent was the slowest in two decades, according to IMF data.

“Most people would agree that if you should fix one thing in this country, it should be power,” Leon said. “There is a need to start changing the power equation from 2016, from today, not tomorrow or later.”

Nigeria generated an average of 2,464 megawatts of electricity on June 6, according to information from the power ministry. This is less than half of the installed capacity of 5,000 megawatts for a nation whose population of 180 million people is the highest on the continent.

It compares to power generating of more than 40,000 megawatts in South Africa, which has a population a third of our size. While inflation will probably continue its upward trend through the end of this year, it is unlikely to exceed 20 per cent, Leon said.

Price of goods growth accelerated to 15.6 percent, the highest rate in more than six years, in May and probably quickened to 16.2 per cent last month, according to the median of seven economist estimates compiled by Bloomberg. The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC ), “may be open to tolerating a little more inflation if growth emerges as the priority, as opposed to choking inflation and squeezing the little life out of growth,” Leon said. “But the CBN, in conjunction with the MPC, needs to be clear to participants in markets what exactly their priority is.”

The CBN left its benchmark rate unchanged at 12 per cent in May and will announce its next decision on July 26. The MPC is likely to increase the rate by 500 basis points in the next year “to address the prevailing inconsistencies between an accommodative monetary policy and a more flexible exchange rate,” Goldman Sachs said in a note on July 8.

Nigeria’s huge budget of N6.1 trillion, with a deficit of 2.2 trillion, or 2.14 percent of gross domestic product, came into operation in May after a delay of four months. If had earned all the revenue it targeted, the fact that the budget was passed late means it’ s likely not all the capital spending planned to boost growth will take place, or it will not be as prudent as initially set out.

He added, "if expenditure stays as planned, and revenue is less due to the lack of growth “then we should see not smaller but potentially a larger deficit.”

We are hoping the managers of our economy will rise to the challenge in the days ahead.

New IG of Police Accuses Retired IG Arase of Taking Away 24 Police Vehicles

By // No comments:

The acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has disclosed that his predecessor, Solomon Arase, went away with as much as 24 police vehicles parked at Force Headquarters, while the seven Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, who retired along with him also carted away between seven and eight police vehicles each.

Idris stated that he had written Arase to return the cars, which included two official bullet-proof BMW 7 series cars, adding that the retired police chief and his DIGs had yet to return the vehicles.

I wonder why Arawe will engage in such acts, knowing that times have changed?

The IG, who revealed this during an interview with journalists on Sunday in Abuja, explained that a special investigation team was already looking at the records of police vehicle purchases in the last three years as well as how they were distributed.

Arase has denied the allegations of his successor, saying he didn’t go away with any police vehicle.

The former IG, who spoke to Punch on the telephone on Sunday, denied taking away 24 police cars, he also described the allegations as a malicious propaganda.

Arase said IGP Idris should squarely face security issues confronting the country rather than engaging in “media propaganda.”

He said, “What am I going to do with 24 cars? Do I want to open a car shop? This is a malicious accusation. There are ways of verifying issues rather than engaging in media propaganda.”

But IGP Idris insisted that he knows what he's saying, “If you look through the windows of my former office and from the report from my (Force) transport officer, you would see cars but a week to the day I would resume, all these cars disappeared.

“So, what I am telling you is that I have signed a directive to my SIP (I have a special investigation panel, I set it up). It is going to investigate all the vehicle purchases, contributions to the police and the distribution of those vehicles in the last three years; we are going to look into that.

“When I took over, there was no vehicle, even the vehicle I would use. I discovered the last IG went away with 24 vehicles; the DIGs, some of them eight, some of them seven. The IG’s vehicles included two BMW 7 series, one armoured; and he left me with an old car.

“The last time I followed the President with it, he was asking me, ‘what are you doing with this old car’ because if you see the headlight, the thing has changed colour, which means they parked it and rains and everything had fallen on it, but the new ones that were bought, he (Arase) went with all of them; they are part of the 24."

“I wrote back to him and said, we have a policy that says when a policeman retires, if you are an IG, AIG, a CP, you are entitled to some vehicles; please, the extra, return it. Four vehicles are enough for an average human being, but what will you even do with four vehicles; but he took 24 vehicles, including two BMW cars. I wrote to him (Arase), I wrote to the DIGs.”

This was how former senior officers loot the place before leaving, but I thought Arase will be different.

True Muslims Won't Kill Christians – Sani

By // No comments:

Ex-National Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum and spokesman for northern delegates in the last National Conference, Anthony Sani, speaks with Punch's Bayo Akinloye about recent religion-inspired killings and why Muslims should not be blamed for violence in Nigeria.
A lot of killings of non-Muslims, said to be mostly Christians, have been attributed to Muslims, leaving many to conclude that Islam is a religion of violence. Is that correct?
I do not share the view that Islam is a religion of violence. What is happening is that terrorists are using religion to legitimise their heinous activities for worldly ends. That is precisely what Al-Qaeda, Taliban, Al-Shabaab, Boko Haram, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and even the Lord’s Resistance Army of Uganda have been doing. But the recent killings in Saudi Arabia, the bombing of mosques, market places and motor parks by Boko Haram as well as the recent killing of one Ms. Aisha in the precinct of Abuja have betrayed the motives which could be for anything but for Allah. And that may explain why President Barack Obama was given Nobel Prize for making a clear distinction between terrorism and Islam; a scenario that has helped in no small measure to encourage Islamic countries to join the coalition of the 66 countries led by the US and the United Kingdom against ISIS.

Do you think Muslims are responsible for the violent death of Christians in recent times, like the Redeemed Christian Church of God female pastor killed in Abuja and an Evangelical Church of West Africa clergyman killed in Nasarawa State?
I do not believe a true Muslim would decide to murder people for no justifiable reasons. I read that one Aisha was also killed in Abuja. But it is possible that elements of the desiccated Boko Haram sect are doing that as a strategy to inspire reprisals by Christians for the purpose of engendering a religious conflict. Mind you, the terrorists have been doing everything possible to bring about religious conflict that would bolster their strength for terrorism under the guise of Jihad. No true Muslim would embark on killing of innocent people for no just cause. But for strategic reasons, the killers give their criminal activities Islamic colouration. I recently overheard some members of Boko Haram who have surrendered regretting their actions on grounds that they were hoodwinked into believing they were fighting Jihadists only for them to discover innocent Muslims and innocent Christians were being killed in churches, mosques, motor parks and markets, whereas Jihadists are expected to target only evil people. But I understand why it is much easier for these terrorists to use Islam to legitimise their crimes. This is precisely because there are still three Islamic countries namely: Saudi Arabia, Iran and Afghanistan which still practise Islamic theocracy with Sharia as the constitution. Christendom has since outgrown Christian theocracy with ‘the Inquisition’ as the constitution in favour of secularity. And that was why when the Lord’s Resistance Army of Uganda attempted to use Christian theocracy that the government should be guided by the Ten Commandments; it could not get traction. I am pretty sure that as soon as the remaining three Islamic countries outgrow Islamic theocracy with Sharia as the constitution, the terrorists who seek to use Islam as a strategy to legitimise their terrorism would have nothing more to use.

The Christian Association of Nigeria has accused Muslims of deliberately trying to wipe out Christians. Do you think there is such a religious plot?
I do not share that view because were there such plans by Muslims to wipe out the majority of Christians, the majority of Muslims would have joined the terrorists. It is also vital to note that President Muhammadu Buhari, who is a devoted Muslim, would not be leading the fight against Boko Haram which claims to be fighting for Jihad. Were there such a plan, most of the Islamic countries would not be among the coalition of 66 countries against Islamic terrorism.

But CAN has alleged that no Muslim or Muslim group has spoken against the latest killings. Why hasn’t that happened?
I have heard the Sultan (of Sokoto) saying the Islamic terrorists are desecrating Islam and that it is evil for anybody or group to claim they are killing for God, who can fight his own cause. In any case, President Buhari is a Muslim who has subdued Boko Haram very substantially.

CAN is also worried that non-Muslims, especially Christians, will not get justice because most of the people in charge of Nigeria’s security agencies are not just northerners but Muslims. Do you agree with that view?
CAN (Christian Association of Nigeria) seems to cosplay Donald Trump who said he would not get justice from a judge, not for content of character of the judge, but because of the judge’s origin is from Mexico. Recall how both the Republicans and Democrats (two major political parties in the United States of America) roundly condemned Mr. Trump for promoting division among Americans. Recall also President Obama said recently that the gunmen who killed 49 gays in Orlando did not do so in representative capacity for Muslims; the one who killed nine blacks in Charleston Church did not do it in representative capacity for white Americans and the gunmen who killed the five police officers in Dallas did not do so in representative capacity for blacks. While I appreciate the concern of CAN that has been informed largely by mistrust and suspicion in the society of today, the respected organisation should not help to promote cleavages of our nation along religious lines.

What do you think can be done to stop the incessant killings of Christians?
The government should give such killers the treatment it is giving Boko Haram by rounding them up and prosecuting them as deterrence for others. In the past, people used to hesistate to report Boko Haram out of fear that they would be killed by the sect, since the sect appeared invincible at that time. But today, people are volunteering information which is responsible for the frequent arrests of members of the sect. The same approach for the (non-Muslims and Christians) killers will lead to arrest and retribution that will go a long way in stopping the mindless killings.

Fulani herdsmen’s violent attacks have continued unabated. Where do you think the problems lie?
There are so many factors. We have increase in population which has reduced lands for cattle to graze. There is the problem of e-payment which has reduced amount of cash people carry thereby reducing armed robbery – that has transmuted to cattle rustling. There is the Libya factor and there is the problem of collapse of moral value and of social contract among groups and among individuals thereby leading to collapse of the core value of humanity. These are some of the causative factors. I am not sure the killings by herdsmen remain unabated since the President has given the directive to security agencies to deal with criminal herdsmen.
The phenomenon has reduced significantly. I hope you know Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has given lie to the report that 80 people were killed by herdsmen in his state. Somehow, I do not want the ethnic colouration being given to the herdsmen phenomenon.

This is because there are many Fulani people who are not herdsmen while many non-Fulanis are herdsmen. But when we give the phenomenon ethnic coloration, we risk offending sensitivity of all Fulanis and pushing criminals to hide under ethnicity and perpetrate crimes knowing it is hard to prosecute an ethnic group. I read recently a protest letter by my friend, Senator Dan Sadau, to Buhari pleading that the President should declare a state of emergency in Zamfara State on account of (government’s) inability to secure the state from activities of herdsmen and unidentified gunmen (terrorising the state). But we know the state is predominantly Fulanis. Thus, let us be cautious in the way we promote cleavages of the nation along ethnic and religious lines.

CAN feels that President Muhammadu Buhari, as the nation’s commander-in-chief should be blamed for the unprovoked killings of Christians. Do you agree?
No need for that question. I forwarded a list of appointments (made by President Buhari) to you earlier (you’ll see that he cares as much for the North as he cares for the South). Please read the import of what President Obama said about the recent killings in Orlando, Charleston Church and that of Dallas, as well as the condemnation of Trump by Americans for being divisive and my advice to CAN is not to help promote cleavages of the nation along religious line.

I’m asking again if CAN’s allegation against Buhari is true.
It is implied in my response. If I can advise CAN not to help promote cleavages of the nation along religious lines, it follows that the blame is misplaced. I noticed northern CAN was the one which complained, but does it make sense to posit that Mr. President would make appointments without consulting the Secretary to the Government of Federation and the Speaker (of the House of Representatives) who are northern Christians and seminal members of the government?

The allegation was made by the national CAN, not its northern chapter.
I only read the allegations by the northern chapter of CAN. But my response still stands. I have not bothered to analyse the appointments by religion because of my attitude that it does not matter the colour of the cat provided it can catch the rats. But I read the submission by one Senator Adeyeye who said there are 18 Christian ministers and 18 Muslim ministers. He also said while it is true that the appointments for security heads favour the North, since only the Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Naval Staff are from the South, in the case of portfolios for development it favours the South; considering only agriculture and education ministers are northerners. He also said there were more Christian senators.

In any case, when the time for accountability comes, Nigerians would rate the regime on issues of real concern to ordinary Nigerians and not how the regime was able to balance appointments by religion, by ethnicity, by region, by gender and by age.

There Is a Grand Plan To Wipe Out Christians From Nigeria - CAN General Secretary Speaks Out

By // No comments:

Rev. Musa Asake
The General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Musa Asake has spoken out about the recent happenings in Nigeria.

In a recent interview with The Punch where he spoke with Bayo Akinloye, the pastor made comments on the recent spate of killings and attacks on non-Muslims.

When he was asked how he feels about the killing of a Redeemed Christian Church of God preacher, Eunice Elisha, he said: "I really don’t know – that’s not the first killing.

"I don’t why this is happening; we have security agencies in Nigeria. But when a Christian is killed, they (Muslims) either say it’s due to blasphemy or they don’t give a reason at all.

"After the killings, we are often told some people were arrested – that’s the best we hear. And, after the arrest, nothing happens again. As Christians we’re going through a difficult time.

"Therefore, my reaction to the killing of the RCCG’s pastor is that it was an ugly incident. It ought not to have happened. There’s never been a situation where a Christian will go and kill somebody for no reason but Christians are being killed Muslims – let me say by extremists; because not all Muslims are involved. Then, we are also faced with Fulani herdsmen who are killing people and wiping out villages as if we don’t have a government in the country. It is a very sad situation."

When he was asked what the implication of the crisis was, Asake said: "From the way I see things happening, there is a grand plan to wipe out Christians in this country but by the grace of God it will not come to pass.

"That is why I am saying if the government is not going to protect us, then we have no choice but to protect ourselves. We will not continue to fold our hands and accept being killed for no reason.

"These killings are going on as usual and we have got to a point to say ‘enough is enough.’ Everybody has to defend themselves."

PHOTOS: Fayose's Multimillion-Naira Houses in Lagos & Abuja Seized by EFCC

By // No comments:

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has seized some properties (mansions) said to belong to the embattled Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose.

The properties located in the highbrow areas of Lagos and Abuja were seized as part of investigations into the N1.219bn the governor allegedly received under Goodluck Jonathan from the office of NSA when Sambo Dasuki held sway, through a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro.

Fayose also allegedly got some huge kickbacks from the Ekiti State Government contractors.

Investigators told Punch that the seized houses belonging to Fayose were allegedly purchased with stolen funds and the EFCC invoked the Assets Forfeiture clause to seize the properties in line with Sections 28 and 34 of the EFCC Act 2004 and Section 13(1) of the Federal High Court Act, 2004.

The seizure came less than a month after the governor’s three Zenith Bank accounts were frozen by the anti-graft agency.

When Punch visited two of the properties on 32 Yedseram Street and 44 Osun River Crescent, Maitama, Abuja, it observed the inscriptions ‘EFCC, Keep Off’ on the fences.

According to court documents filed by EFCC, the property on Osun River Crescent was bought by Fayose in the name of his London-based sister, Mrs. Moji Ladeji.

The governor reportedly pulled down the structure of one of the Abuja properties and started building a new one. The two properties, which are uncompleted buildings, were said to be worth over N470m.

The properties in Lagos were four duplexes located at Plot 100 Tiamiyu Savage Street, Victoria Island. The four duplexes cost $1.3m (N364m) each.

They were allegedly bought through a company, JJ Technical.

The EFCC had in a 10-paragraph counter-affidavit deposed to by Tosin Owobo accused Fayose of using the proceeds of crime to purchase properties.
