Delta State Governor Opens Up: We Can No Longer Pay Salaries Because of Niger Delta Avengers

By // No comments:

The Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa has cried out saying that the impact of the renewed destruction of oil assets in the state's oil producing parts has gone so bad that the state is now unable to pay salaries regularly.

Speaking at the Government Office Annex in Warri on Wednesday where he convened a stakeholders meeting, the governor said: “The larger Nigerian government has been in financial crisis over dwindling oil prices. Increased production would have helped cushion the impact but instead we are faced with destruction of oil assets.

“Dealing with dwindling oil prices and destruction of oil assets, we are now producing just half of our quota. And we are all really worried because of the greater effect is on Delta State.

"Before now we receive up to N20billion monthly, but what we have now is so low.

Last time we got only N3.4billion. Last month what we received has dropped to N3billion. We now get 1/7th of what we use to have.”

The governor said, going by the current financial position, the state was no longer in a position to pay salaries regularly just as Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, has also nosedived.

“We met a wage bill of N7.4 billion. Our workforce has been unchanged. With biometrics and rationalization, we trimmed that to about N6.8 billion. With the situation, we have in our hands, we are not in position to pay workers regularly anymore.

“If we produce our normal volumes, we won’t have it this bad. We have had to reduce support to the councils. And apart from poor income from Federation Account, IGR has also gone down because money is not circulating.

“I do know that we were receiving reasonable Pay As You Earn, PAYE of up to N1.5bn and N1.6bn monthly. That has gone down. We should realise there’s a challenge. Political office holders, traditional rulers should build peace. Delta State has been on the news for the wrong reasons and that’s not where we want to be.”

Olisa Metuh Pleads To Refund N400m, Says He Supports Buhari's War Against Corruption

By // No comments:

The former PDP spokesman, Olisa Metuh, has offered to refund to the federal government, the sum of N400 million he had received from the office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in the build up to the 2015 elections.

Metuh, who is facing trial at the Federal High Court, had said he did not know that the money given to him by the ONSA, when Sambo Dasuki was NSA, was meant for arms procurement.

He claimed ex-President Goodluck Jonathan gave him an assignment with the money.

Speaking through his lawyer, Emeka Etiaba, on Thursday, Metuh said at the time the money was released to him after his presentation to the ex-president, he had no knowledge of the source.

“Our client had every cause to believe that the money was from the ex-President to whom he made presentation, received directives and rendered report and accounts accordingly,” Mr. Etiaba said.

He also said it was while in court that a document was brought regarding the source of the money and he had indicated “his willingness to refund the money and has indeed approached his family, friends and associates to mobilize funds to refund the entire N400m to the government regardless of the fact that the money had been expended based on the directives of the former President and that part of the money had been recovered from one of the prosecution witnesses.”

Metuh, through his lawyer, is trying to meet the Ministry of Justice and EFCC on how to return the money

Presidency Tells Saraki, Ekweremadu: You Can Tender Your Resignation Letter

By // No comments:

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has told Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, to stop being sentimental and leave National Assembly out of their court trials.

The SGF faulted statements credited to the two leaders of the Senate after their arraignment, which he said gave the erroneous impression that the entire Senate was on trial.

He said: “It is important to emphasise that this case involved only the four accused persons and should not be presented to the unsuspecting public as involving the entire Senate.

“The complaint leading to the forgery investigation was reported to the Police by some aggrieved Senators, who specifically accused certain persons. It is not the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that is involved and definitely not the House of Representatives.”

Lawal continued: “A case of forgery is usually preferred against individuals as was the case with a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, who was accused of certificate forgery. What he did was to resign, honourably.”

TOUCHING - Embattled Fani Kayode Writes Secret Letter to Nigerian Christians from Prison

By // No comments:

This letter which has gone viral on social media is credited to Femi Fani Kayode,
former Minister of Aviation who is currently remanded in prison by the court over financial crimes.

Read the emotional piece which is currently being shared by sympathisers on Facebook:

God willing am in custody of EFCC. But to me is a great time to commune with God just the way Paul and other brethren did in their days.

I am here not only because my party gave me money to campaign for them like every other politician even in APC. But if it might interest you to know, what is going on is the persecution of Christians. Before I forget, this message should be taken to Apostle Johnson Suleiman the founder of Omega fire ministry. I had a revelation that they are planning to attack him. Because he is one of the major voice crying out for justice in the body of Christ. The Muslims are out to persecute the Christians.

I am here under custody because the likes of Kabiru are not comfortable with my position as a Christian. God willing, the dark age will soon be over.

They refused taking me to court to defend my civic right. They want to keep me for the next 4 years. But they don't know it is dangerous. I now have time to pray more, study more, and even meditate.

Before my arrest, Lai Mohammed offered me an amnesty if only i decamp to their anti-Christ party. I refused because i know who i am. No man can cover your sin for you. If am guilty, i will surly come out strong.

This is not just anti-corruption fight. Where are the PDP governors and leaders from the North? They are walking freely today. This is a fight to pocket the voices of Christians. A situation where an office picked offence on me for relating with my God through the name Jesus. He threw my bible to the floor today.

If it where to be the Quran, will he do that? The head of who did that would've been at the gate of Aso rock by now. So many secret plots to eliminate top politicians and pastors who are Christians is on going.

Tukur was right when he raised alarm that, a meeting was held in Dubai to overthrow Jonathan by all means. Part of what they discussed at the meeting,is what Aregbesola and El-Rufai are displaying in their various states.

I am not an infidel and i will never be one. I am a man of dignity. I will not stop fighting even here in prison. I am the John the Baptist of my generation. I will not keep mute and watch anti-Christ imposing policies that are not religious friendly. What has bible got to do with my case with the EFCC?

Why are they keeping me here when we have a competent court to prove if am guilty or not? I am blowing the whistle now for Christians to go on their knees. This was how i warned my brothers against Sheriff whose mission is to destroy the PDP and give room for Buhari to install one party system.

We gave them opportunity to be opposition.

Why are they depriving us such right if they don't have interior motive. A democratic system without vibrant opposition is said to be dictatorship government.

God willing, i will be alive to witness Nigerians glamouring for referendum like what took place in great Britain.

And such referendum will tell if we truly saw the future under president Buhari's government. Arresting Kayode is the greatest achievement they've achieved. But for me,God used them to keep me here, in order to prepare for the challenges ahead.

Today is pregnant. Let's see what tomorrow will deliver. They were not elected to be permanent. They have maximum 8years to stay. And is already counting.

Thank you all for your prayers.

Omg! 70 Churches and 20 Mosques Shut Down in Lagos...Find Out Why

By // No comments:

Up to 70 Churches, 20 Mosques and about 11 hotels, club houses and beer parlours were shut down by the Lagos State Government on Wednesday.

According to Vanguard, this was in a move aimed at reducing noise in the state.

The General Manager, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Bola Shabi, who made this known, said that henceforth, the state government would no longer allow make-shift buildings to be used as places of worship.

Shabi said: “Precisely about 70 churches, 20 mosques and about 11 hotels, club houses and beer parlours were shut and we’ve given them some directives to follow.

“We’ve been so strict now that we are not going to even allow make-shift churches in the state any longer. “What I mean by make-shift, using tents and uncompleted building, we are not going to allow that any further in the state.

“But I will strongly tell you that the level of compliance is more on the mosque area, because immediately you shut them, they instantly bring down their speakers or reduce the noise they make.’’ Shabi said that LASEPA planned to reduce noise in the state to 70 percent and to zero per cent by the year 2020.

“As at today, we are only able to reduce the noise level to about 35 per cent. That is not a pass mark yet. So, until we reach that target of 70 to 80 per cent, we will continue the enforcement. Enforcement is a continuous exercise and we have set a target for ourselves. We want to ensure that Lagos is noise-free by the year 2020. With our status as a mega city, by year 2020 we will be free of noise,’’ he said.

Opinion Poll: Nigerians Rate Buhari High on Economy and Governance

By // No comments:
President-buhari

According to a reportorial published on Leadership newspaper, Nigerians have passed a vote of confidence on President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and are also optimistic that the nation’s economy and democracy are moving in the right direction.

This was the outcome of an opinion poll conducted in the six geo-political zones of the country by the International Republican Institute (IRI), an arm of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

During the poll, there were 13, 409 contacts and 7,901 completed interviews, comprising 51 per cent male and 49 per cent female.

Unveiling the poll result yesterday during a press briefing in Abuja, the acting regional director, IRI, John Tomaszewski, said that despite regional divisions and dwindling economy, 54 per cent of Nigerians feel that the country is headed in the right direction.

Of the respondents, 68 per cent were from the North and 38 per cent from the South, but there are stark divisions in perceptions about the country’s trajectory.

On corruption, 53 per cent of the respondents believe that corruption has decreased significantly; twenty-seven per cent think it has increased, while 18 per cent believe corruption in the country has remained the same.

The poll result revealed that 40 per cent of the respondents in the North-East believe the country is headed strongly in the right direction, compared to just 10 per cent in the South-East, while 49 per cent strongly believe that the country is moving in the wrong direction.

This will come as a massive boost to the Nigeria president who has been widely accused of a misrule in less than 14 months of assuming power.

A Ghanaian pastor and head of the International Godsway Church,
Bishop Daniel Obinim has stunned people with his new and bizarre style of conducting prayers.

During a recent healing service in his church, the Bishop asked his male members who wanted bigger p*nis to file out.

He then laid his hands on their genital region and offered special prayers.
In March this year, same pastor told his congregation he has the power to pray for anyone who wants bigger breast, buttocks or genitals.

“If you do not like the looks of any part of the body, come to me, what do you want that I can’t offer…if you want a big buttocks I can do it for you, if you want big breasts, I can help…if you have a small manhood, I can change them all when I come to the spiritual realm…,” he is quoted as saying in one of his services.

Mother & Her Newly-Born Twins Detained in A Lagos Hospital Over Hospital Bill

By // No comments:

According to Vanguard, a nursing mother of a set of twins, Gloria Okore and her twins have been detained at a private hospital in Lagos, seven weeks after her delivery.

Reason? Her inability to settle the outstanding N35,000 hospital bill. Gloria gave birth on May 10th at the Bessylva Hospital and Maternity Home situated at 60, Surulere Street in Dopemu-Agege, Lagos, to preterm (7 months old) set of triplets but one, a girl, died due to lack of incubator to nurture her.

Speaking about her current situation, 27yrs old Gloria said:

“I had the triplets through normal delivery, but the babies were born prematurely. We were charged N120,000. My husband hawks fairly-used clothes (okrika). It took him time to raise N85,000, which he paid in installments.
I am from Owerri in Imo State, while my husband is from Abia State. We got married three years ago. Before I had these triplets, I had twins who died immediately after birth. When I was pregnant for the triplets, I was very sick. I could not walk long distance because my belly was very big.
I want government to help pay the balance of the hospital bills and also help us with basic necessities for the babies. Right now I cannot work because the babies are still young.”

Alleged Forgery: Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu Writes US Congress, EU Parliament, Foreign Missions

By // No comments:

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has written a 2-page letter to leaders of the United Nations, European Union, United States’ Congress, European Union (EU) Parliament, governments of United States, United Kingdom and other foreign missions, over what he described as an attempt to truncate Nigeria’s democracy, clamp down on opposition and silence him as the leader and highest ranking member of the opposition in the country, all in the name of prosecuting an alleged forgery case. He wants the international community to decide whether or not the trial he and Saraki are facing was justified or if it's one purely borne out of political vendetta.

Part of Ekweremadu's letter titled “Re: Trumped up charges against the presiding officers of the eighth Senate: Nigerian democracy is in grave danger,” reads;

“I wish to forward to you the court summons containing the trumped up charges preferred against my person; the President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Bukola Saraki and two others. I also wish to appeal to you to kindly find time to read through the annexures- petition by members of the Senate Unity Forum, statements by persons interrogated and the police report- to see if our names appeared anywhere in these documents.
You may, thereafter, judge for yourself whether the Federal Government, acting through the Attorney-General of the Federation, has any justification whatsoever to generate our names for trial. The list of the accused persons appear to have been politically generated because you cannot by the documents attached, relate any of our names to the offence for which we are now being charged.
Moreover, the rules and principles of fair hearing have not been adhered to because the police have not interacted with me or the President of the Senate as at the time of writing this letter. You may also wish to judge for yourself whether this trial orchestrated against me is not a political trial, calculated witch-hunt, barefaced intimidation, and a clear attempt to emasculate the parliament and silence me as the leader and highest ranking member of the opposition in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, it could also be recalled that an attempt was made on my life on November 17, 2015. The Nigerian security agencies did nothing, even though the incident was duly reported. This is for your information and reflection”.

See the Face of a Criminal Who Specializes in Robbing Bank Customers in Lagos (PHOTO)

The suspected robber
A member of a gang of robbers, Olaide Mutairu, 27, known for terrorizing bank customers in a community in Lagos metropolis, has been arrested after a collaborative operation between okada riders and the police.

According to reports, the Oyo State indigene had allegedly entered Abimbola Street in the area with other gang members on two motorcycles and were about to attack their victim when policemen in the area engaged them in a gun battle where three of the suspects escaped and Mutairu fell off the motorcycle and was apprehended.

A police source said the suspect was the leader of the gang. “On Friday, June 17, we got a tip-off that some robbers had been sighted in the area. Some of our officers mounted motorcycles and went to the street where the suspects were purportedly sighted.

“When the robbers saw the police team, they opened fire on them. The police returned same and overpowered them. Three of them, who fell off the motorcycle quickly ran across the express and joined a crowd. We had to cease fire to avoid civilian casualties,” the source said adding that the suspect was unlucky and was apprehended.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, an okada rider in the area, said motorcyclists in the community joined forces with the police due to the high rate of robbery in the area.

“We got a bad name because of these robbers, who I believe operate on information. They always go after bank customers.

“When we saw the suspicious movements of the gang that Friday, we alerted the police. Our suspicion proved accurate when the robbers started shooting,” he said.

The suspect, however, denied the allegation, saying he was riding a motorcycle when he was attacked and arrested. “I don’t know what they are talking about. I was on my way to Mile 2, where I live with my mother, when the police stopped me and injured me. I didn’t know what my offence was until I got to the police station. I was the only one on the motorcycle and I don’t have any gun.”

SP Dolapo Badmos, the Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the arrest, urged residents of the state to always be on the alert to inform the police on any suspicious movements in their area, adding that the suspect would be arraigned in court at the end of investigations.

Naira Crashes Badly Against the Dollar Again...See Latest Value

By // No comments:

On Tuesday, the naira again crashed at the parallel market as it traded at N355 to the dollar, down from N351 the previous day. At the new interbank market, naira closed N282.50 to the dollar slightly weaker than the 282 it ended on Monday.

According to a report by Punch, the Central Bank of Nigeria had last week floated the naira and adopted a single structure through the interbank/autonomous window for the nation’s foreign exchange market.

The CBN has been selling dollars on the interbank market since it ended its 16 month-old currency peg last week, and it on Tuesday asked currency traders for bid-offer quotes at around 11:18am, according to Reuters.

The apex bank sold an undisclosed amount of hard currency on the interbank market on Tuesday to ease dollar shortages and provide importers the dollars to pay for the products they bring into the country, traders were quoted to have said.

A total of $51m traded on the interbank market just before the market closed, which traders attributed to the central bank’s intervention.

The old currency peg had set a rate of N197 to the dollar, which over-valued the naira and led to a shortage of dollars that choked off growth in the economy. The shortage was exacerbated by plunging prices for oil, Nigeria’s biggest export and its main source of hard currency.

The CBN abandoned the peg to allow the currency to trade freely on the interbank market, but lack of liquidity has curbed activity, traders say, leaving the central bank as the main supplier of hard currency.

Removing the peg has narrowed the gap between naira rates available on the official and black markets.

The bank on Monday introduced an over-the-counter futures market for the currency to help manage dollar demand, quoting the naira firmer at 279 to the dollar in a month’s time and at 210 by April next year.

In the non-deliverable forwards market, the naira rose against the dollar on Tuesday, with the one-month contract quoting the currency as firm as 283, after hitting 296 a week ago.

Jail Calling: Senator Shehu Sani Lectures Saraki and Ekweremadu on Life in Prison

By // No comments:

Senator Shehu Sani
Senator Shehu Sani (APC, Kaduna Central), has lectured the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu on how to live in a prison, as the lawmakers are standing trial at a Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged forging of the Senate Rules book.

It was gathered that Sani, who spent four years in various prisons across the country during the era of late General Sani Abacha tutored the Senate leaders at the Court during their forgery case.

According to a Senator who was at the Court on Monday, Sani lectured the accused persons when Justice Yusuf Halilu stood down the forgery suit for one hour.

"Sani came and lectured the presiding officers on life in the prison. He told them that in the prison there is ranking rule like at the National Assembly. He advised them to cooperate with the Governor in the prison.

"He said after registration, they will be given plates for meals. Sani also told them that they are going to share toilet, bathroom with other inmates and that it is the Governor of the prison that will allocate bed space to them,"he said.

When contacted on phone by DailyTrust on Monday, Sani confirmed lecturing the presiding officers on prison."Yes, is anything bad in what I did? They are my colleagues and as a former inmates, I felt I should educate them on how to live in the prison, so that they will not be caught unaware," he said.

Recall that Saraki had in a statement he issued after appearing at the Court, said he is ready to go to jail in order to defend the country's democracy.

Ex-NSA Dasuki Asked Me To Pay $40m To Jonathan's Cousin – Witness

By // No comments:

After all the delays, the trial of Azibaola Robert, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan's cousin, began on Tuesday with the EFCC presenting its first witness, Ibrahim Mahe, who narrated how he transferred $40million to “One Plus Holdings Nigeria Limited”, a company owned by Mr. Robert.

He and his wife, Stella, are standing trial on a 7-count charge before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja. They are accused of money laundering and corruption.

Mahe, a retired permanent secretary, special services in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, while being led in evidence by EFCC counsel, Sylvanus Tahir, told the court that:

He did not know the first and second defendants (Robert and Stella), but got to know the third defendant, One Plus Company, through a transaction.

Narrating how he got to know the company, Mr. Mahe said that, “on August 20, 2014, the National Security Adviser endorsed a memo to me which originated from the Office of the Director of Finance and Administration of the ONSA detailing the bank details of one company called ‘One Plus’ and the purpose for which the company was to be paid a sum of $40million (forty million US dollars).

“The NSA instructed me to prepare payment and I prepared the payment mandate for the $40million in favour of ‘One Plus’ for the signature of the NSA. I sent it to the NSA, he signed and sent it to back to me and subsequent action was for me to counter-sign the mandate and then send it to the Central Bank of Nigeria for Payment,” Mr. Mahe said.

The witness had earlier told the court that his responsibilities involved matters that had to do with the office of the NSA.
He told the court that his office served as a warehouse for funds of the “Intelligence Community”.

“When funds get into the account, the NSA is informed of the arrival of the funds and proposal on the distribution to the various agencies is made to him. When he approves, the monies are sent to the end users,” said Mr. Mahe.

The case continues on July 4 and 5, 2016.

Wife Breast-fed Baby After Taking Cocaine... Police Arrests Her & Her Husband

By // No comments:

42-year-old man, Som Lisaius and his wife Krystin Sorich Lisaius, 26, were arraigned on 3 criminal felony charges each after police said their daughter ingested cocaine through her mother's breast milk.
Krystin, a former reporter allegedly had taken the drug before breast-feeding the baby girl.

The Tucson couple's daughter became unresponsive and lethargic after breast-feeding on May 15, so they took her to Oro Valley Hospital.

The television personalities said the child was 'wabbly,' 'became limp' and that her 'eyes were rolling into the back of her head,' according to The Tucson Weekly.

The pair did not want to allow the hospital to draw and test the baby's blood, so they left against the hospital's recommendation, but agreed to have her transferred to another facility.

Officials transported the baby girl via ambulance to Diamond Children's Hospital, and once there, the couple was still uncooperative and refused a toxicology test for the child.

Eventually, a urinalysis and a toxicology screen was conducted in the presence of hospital staff along with officials with child welfare. The tests showed that the baby girl had cocaine in her system.

A detective wrote in his report: 'It should be noted that at no time according to the report did either parent tell the hospital staff about the mother's cocaine use the night before and Krystin continued to breast feed while at the hospital.'

The mother first denied using cocaine and said she didn't know how the baby was exposed to it. But she later confessed to police that she snorted cocaine with her husband on May 14 while hosting friends in their Oro Valley home, according to a police report obtained by the Arizona Daily Star.

Sadly, further tests conducted on the baby's hair also tested positive for cocaine.

The husband and wife have now been charged for child abuse and other stronger charges. Irresponsibility!

Explain why you froze Fayose's account, court orders EFCC, Zenith bank

By // No comments:
Governor-ayodele-fayose

Read the statement below...

The Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Zenith Bank plc to show cause why an Order Exparte to defreeze Governor Ayodele Fayose's accounts, filed yesterday to the court by the governor's legal team, should not be granted. The judge gave Monday July 4 for the anti-graft agency and Zenith bank Plc to appear in court with the said evidence.
Mr Mike Ozekhome (SAN), had through an exparte order deposed to on the 24th of June, 2016 by Bimpe Olatemiju sought a mandatory order de-freezing the accounts belonging and operated by him pending the determination of his interlocutory application. Joined in the suit are the EFCC (1st defendant) and Zenith bank (2nd defendant). The order was supported by 18-paragraph affidavit , a lone Exhibit, which was a letter issued to Governor Fayose by Zenith bank confirming that the EFCC actually placed a restriction order on the accounts and a written address .

He also sought the leave of the court for the service of the originating summons on the defendants in their various addresses outside the jurisdiction of the court as contained on the order papers, supported by 17-paragraph affidavit.

Ozekhome said the order was brought pursuant to order 26 rule 8(1) of the Federal High Court Civil Procedure Rule 2009 and Section 44(1) of the 1999 constitution which gives the court the discretionary powers to adjudicate on such matter.

Citing the case of Abdulaziz Nyako Vs EFCC to buttress his position that the anti-graft agency has no power to freeze Fayose’s account without valid court order, Ozekhome added the action was a flagrant negation of the Section 308 of the constitution, which conferred absolute immunity on the government against civil and criminal procedure.

He said it was appalling that the EFCC could play ostrich to these valid constitutional requirements and took cognizance of the African Charters on Human and People’s Rights before taking the punitive stand against Fayose, adding that these infractions had rendered the action unconstitutional, wrongful , null and void .

Delivering his ruling, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, said that he quite understood that the applicant (Fayose) enjoys immunity and that the court can adjudicate on this matter as canvassed by the counsel to the plaintiff, but he pointed out that the relief he basically sought was a mandatory order of the court.

“I quite agree that the applicant has immunity pursuant to provisions of the constitution, but it is glaring that the application he is requesting for is a mandatory order to undo what had already been done and the court can’t abdicate its duty under this circumstance. I am of the opinion that this mandatory order is better granted with the interlocutory order being sought through an application pending before the court , because the applicant has filed all papers to this effect.
“I hereby ordered the 1st and 2nd respondents to appear before this honourable court on July 4, 2016 and show cause why the order should be refused. “This is not a refusal of the order, I have not refused it, but I only put it in abeyance which I said without prejudice to what will be the position of the respondents . “But a leave is granted for the service of the defendants with the originating summons in their respective addresses as contained on the order papers”, the Judge ruled. Describing the presiding judge as very at home with the law and a highly experience lawyer, Ozekhome said told newsmen that: "our motion was an exparte for the de-freezing and removal of restriction placed on citizen Ayodele Fayose 's two accounts with the Zenith Bank Plc.
“The bank claimed through a letter made available to our client that it acted on the instructions of the EFCC and we are here by way of originating summons to say that the EFCC has no powers, whether under the EFCC Act, money laundering Act, under the constitution or any other known law to freeze the accounts of a sitting governor who enjoys immunity under section 308 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as altered because that section makes it clear that for the time that person is in that office, the President, Vice-President, Governor and Deputy-Governor he enjoys absolute immunity from any civil or criminal procedure and that no court process can issue against such person.

“So, EFCC could not have obtained an order Exparte to freeze his account, if they did that, it is illegal, null and void. It could also not have frozen his accounts without having an order Exparte, " he said.

The investigative report further revealed that several banking sources in Nigeria disclosed that the N11 billion loan Ben Bruce took out from Union Bank around 2007 was supposed to be used to construct the Abuja Entertainment Center.

According to the sources, instead of using the loan to fund his Nigerian business operations, the senator diverted it to purchase an opulent property in the Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles and London.

Kwara Residents Lament The Increasing Theft Of Cooked Food On Fire

By // No comments:

The hardship brought about by the current economic recession in Nigeria has given rise to a spate of insecurity. According to a report by The Guardian.
In Kwara State, cooking a pot of soup is now an invitation to robbers, as cases of eagle-eyed hungry men absconding with cooked food still on the fire is now a daily occurrence.
The incident is widespread in areas without perimeter fencing and among women who cook or have opted to cook with coal pots. At each of such areas such as Tanke, Basin, Sango, Offa Garage, and Kilanko, the incident according to The Guardian investigations occurred over five times in just a week.
According to Alhaja Hamidalat Olawale at Sango:

"I was cooking around 5.00p.m. in readiness for the breaking of the fast for the day. It was beans and I decided to use coal pot at the open backyard. I had added all the food condiments and was waiting for the broth to dry up. But to my greatest surprise, I did not see the pot of the beans again.
"I was shocked discovering this. What amazed me was that the thief did not come for it before it was ready; he or she came when the food was ready and we were already salivating, meaning the person must have been closely monitoring me."

Another victim, an undergraduate of the University of Ilorin, Anita Bazuaye, said it was her pot of soup that disappeared beside her window.

"It was painful because as a student, it was difficult for me to get money again for another soup. In fact, when I managed to start cooking again, I did not leave the place until I had securely packed the pot inside my room."

Reacting to the development, the Police spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi (ASP), said no formal report to that effect had come to him or anyone within the state command, but warned that.

"It is a serious matter and we will not take it lightly with anyone caught in the act. The Penal Code frowns at theft and we will treat anyone in the act accordingly."

A former chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Emmanuel Ayeoribe, said the development could not be divorced from the non-payment of workers’ salaries.

"If nothing is urgently done to commence regular payment of salaries, very soon, people will start leaping over the fence to steal food, not just from unfenced quarters," he warned.

Kenyan Woman Arrested After She Hired Assassin To Kill Her Husband (PHOTO/VIDEO)

By // No comments:

Estranged wife of a Kenyan Airports Authority (KAA) employee and her relatives have been arrested over a plot to assassinate him.

Buburu Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Jeremiah Ikiao on Thursday, June 23, said Bilha Njoki had hired hitmen to kill her husband but police got wind of the plot and laid a trap to catch her.

Detectives, a day earlier had tricked her that he had been killed and his body dumped in Dandora. After she received the ‘good news’, she sent her brother and a friend to the ‘crime scene’ to confirm if it was indeed true.

Unbeknownst to them, undercover detectives who acted as the hitmen, had taken her husband to the supposed scene and covered his body with blood. When the two arrived and saw the ‘body’, they celebrated and called the woman to ‘confirm’ that he was, indeed, dead.

It was then that the officers arrested the two and confiscated their phones before ordering them to reveal the woman’s whereabouts. Police had made sure that they had gathered adequate evidence before making the arrest.

The police informer had been told to meet the planners at a restaurant along Manyanja Road that had a CCTV camera and had also been given a recorder.

The sleuths had also kept a record of all calls and had established that she had bought a new phone and line for the planning of the execution of her estranged husband.

The woman was arrested near Mama Lucy Hospital while inside a black Toyota Harrier together with her sister. The detectives recovered Sh400, 000 and six mobile phones.
The hitman was to be paid Sh500,000, but the woman only paid Sh100,000 as down payment. The remaining Sh400,000, which was recovered from the car when they were arrested, was to be paid after she had confirmed that her husband had been killed.

In his statement to the police, the husband, a resident of Buruburu Phase 5, said that he married her in 2007 and that they have two children. However, they separated early last year and the children have been under his custody.

Mr Ikiao said that his officers had worked closely with her estranged husband to gather enough evidence about the plan and also to trap the hitmen while at the same time ensuring that he was safe.
Police said the intended killing could be due to properties and businesses the two still co-own. Among the properties owned by the estranged couple are a house in Buruburu Estate and a mobile phone shop along Luthuli Avenue.

The suspects are expected in court on Friday to be charged with conspiracy to commit murder
