A chieftain of the PDP in Lagos, Mrs. Gloria Adebajo-Fraser, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint a credible chief economic adviser in view of the economic challenges facing the country.
In a statement on Wednesday, she also asked the President to conduct surveys regularly on controversial national matters in order to articulate the views and expectations of Nigerians before acting.
This, according to her, is the way governance is done in developed countries.
The politician, while appraising President Buhari’s first anniversary in office, said the President had recorded commendable progress in tackling corruption by exposing looters of the national treasury.
She, however, said Federal Government needed to devise innovative ways to sustain the anti-graft war.
Her words, “My advice, therefore, is for the President to appoint a game-changing Chief Economic Adviser. With due respect to the President’s economic team, we need to utilise innovative solutions with a homegrown economic blueprint which would guarantee short-term results while they are applying theoretical principles which would guarantee the deliverables in the medium and long terms.
“Also, this administration has not appreciated the role of irrigation in its agricultural programmes. There is no meaningful programme on food security that can be achieved without the correct type of irrigation.”
